Debra "Debbie" Cantwell (née Payne), a beacon of laughter and warmth in the lives of many, left this world far too soon on March 24, 2024, in Oroville, CA. Her departure has left a void in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her, but her spirit—a brilliant mix of kindness, generosity, and unwavering love—will forever color the memories of her beloved family and friends.

Born to Carolyn and the late Delmer Payne Sr. on November 15, 1960, Debbie was the bright light in her family, growing up alongside her siblings Robert, Delmer Jr., Sherry, and the late Teressa. She liked to say that her journey through life was rich, not in terms of material wealth but in the unbreakable bonds and countless moments of joy shared with her family.

Debbie’s heart belonged to her family, first and foremost. She was a fiercely loving mother to Denise, Sabrina, Jessica, and Dennis, and her love expanded with the arrival of each grandchild: Trevor, Abigail, Gabriel, CJ, Brandon, Tianna, Tajahnae, Brittany, Kolbie, Dyklen, and Roselynn, not to forget her cherished great-grandson, Amirion. James Jones, her long-time boyfriend, stood by her, sharing the many adventures of their blended family.

A proud alumna of Chico High School, Debbie’s education was but a chapter in a life rich with simpler, more heartfelt pursuits. Her achievements were measured not in certificates or accolades but in the laughter-filled rooms, the quiet moments of comfort provided to those in need, and the unwavering support she gave her children in every one of their undertakings.

Debbie had a rare gift; she could uplift spirits merely with her presence, a testament to her beautiful, kind-hearted nature. Days with her were suffused with joy, generosity, and the unconditional love that she extended to everyone lucky enough to cross her path.

As we prepare to bid farewell, a service celebrating Debbie's remarkable life will be held at Brusie Funeral Home in Chico, CA, on April 12th. For those wishing to honor Debbie's memory, the family welcomes donations, flowers, and memorial contributions in lieu of your presence.

Debbie leaves behind a legacy of love, encapsulated in the memories of her mother Carolyn; daughters Denise, Sabrina, and Jessica; son Dennis; siblings Robert, Delmer Jr., and Sherry Sue; her grandchildren and great-grandson; and her devoted partner, James. As we reflect on the joy she brought into our lives, we find comfort in knowing that while she may have departed from our sight, she remains forever etched in our hearts. Rest in peace, Debbie.
