Obituary of Theron Pollard

Theron (Ted) Pollard was born on December 5, 1921, and passed away peacefully in his sleep on Friday night, December 8, 2023, at the age of 102 at Prestige Senior Living in Oroville, California.

After graduating from high school, Ted served during WWII in the Marines. He fought at Iwo Jima and watched the American flag being raised in victory. While serving later in the Navy, he met his first wife Ruby. They moved to Martinez, California where he joined the Carpenter’s Union. He worked as a carpenter until he retired.

Several years after Ruby passed away, he met Virginia at a gas station. She and Theron married and eventually moved to Paradise, California. They built a beautiful home in the mountains there. After moving to Paradise, Ted and Virginia opened a travel agency and took groups on tours to various sites around the world. After Virginia passed in 1999, Theron sold their home and moved closer into town.

He lived a good life, caring for his wives, being there for them until the end. Ted had a wonderful sense of humor, he was kindhearted, friendly, and well respected.

He loved to fish and most of all he loved to exercise. Almost daily he walked over two miles and bowled regularly in a league until the Paradise fire in 2018. After the fire, he ended up moving to Prestige Senior living, where he participated in activities and exercised regularly until the last weeks of his life.

Ted outlived all eight of his siblings along with his only daughter, Lela Jo, who passed away tragically at 5 years of age. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephews, granddaughter, and cousins.

Theron requested no funeral or memorial services be conducted. Donations in his memory can be made to the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) in Paradise, California, or any other VFW in the country.
