Obituary of Garey Burns Weibel

GAREY BURNS WEIBEL

Garey Burns Weibel, born September 28th, 1929 and entered into rest May 13, 2022.

Garey was born in McCook, Nebraska to Alton and Marian Weibel. After moving to Chico, Garey graduated from Chico High School and attended Chico State University before joining the U.S. Air Force. He served for 6 years and participated in the Berlin Airlift Operation.

Garey enjoyed hunting and had a great love of aviation including obtaining private, commercial and aerobatic licenses. Garey loved the Air Force. Garey was a Past Master Mason, lifetime member of the Elks and President of the Gateway Science Museum among countless others.

He joined the Chico Enterprise-Record in 1955 as a classified ad salesman. He retired after 32 successful years as publisher and general manager; making great memories and a lifetime of friendships. Garey was very supportive of his community and was active in civic and fraternal affairs. Garey and his wife Barbara traveled extensively and made a lifetime of memories in Wyoming and Lake Almanor. They enjoyed time spent as members of the dance club. Most of all they loved cocktail hour to share about each other's day.

Garey is preceded in death by his eldest son Michael Weibel and step-son Brent Lockhart. He is survived by his beloved wife of 27 years, Barbara, son Craig (Dana), daughter Merri (David) Matley, son Dirk (Karen), daughter-in-law Maureen, step-daughter Lori Lockhart, and step-daughter Heidi (Mike) Poole. He leaves behind 21 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Garey's absence will be felt throughout the community. He will be greatly missed by all but especially his loving family.

He will be honored at a graveside service May 25th at 2pm at Chico Cemetery, followed by a reception at the Butte Creek Country Club.
