Obituary of Roger Sohnrey

Roger was born in Durham, CA on Dec. 22nd, 1941. He went to school and had lived in Durham his whole life. Following his father's footsteps, he made a living by farming. He farmed rice, almonds, prunes and other crops. He loved the challenges that farming brought and he pursued his interest in it until the end. Roger served on multiple boards of directors including North State Hulling, BUCRA and FSA. In his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved steelhead fishing in Oregon and spending time with his wife, family and friends at Lake Almanor. Roger passed away Saturday evening in Chico, CA. He is survived by his wife Sylvia, daughter Carolyn, son Michael, grandkids Katelyn, Mason and Sean; brother Ivan and sister Alice. Roger was a man who always stood behind his convictions and although he had a "way with words", his intentions were always good. His candidness, intuition and strength will be greatly missed! A celebration of life will be held for Roger at the Chico Elks Lodge on Friday, March 1st from 1:30pm-4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to: Durham Coliseum Capital Campaign, PO Box 122, Durham, CA 95938. Contributions will benefit and improve Durham Hight School's track and football area.
