Obituary of Rita Ledgerwood

RITA MAE LEDGERWOOD Rita Ledgerwood bravely passed on Saturday, August 18, 2012, surrounded by her family. She was 92 years old. Born on January 29, 1920 in Springfield, Massachusetts, she married James L. Ledgerwood during the Great Depression. They started a family together at the end of World War II. Between 1945 and 1955 she had the prodigious good luck to bring four healthy children into the world: Jim Ledgerwood, Maryann Kalback, Dorothy Caprealian and Tom Ledgerwood. In the early 60's, Rita packed up everything they had and followed her husband across the country to California, finally alighting Chico in 1968. She got her AS at Butte College in 1973 and worked for the Chico Unified School District as the school secretary for both Park View and Sierra View schools. She retired in the early 70's and had an opportunity to travel the world with her husband and their dear friends, Max and Marge Williamson. Rita is also survived by six grandchildren: Jonathan Kalbach, Jennifer Brown, Kimberly Merkel, Jamie Clyde, Madeline Ledgerwood, Spencer Ledgerwood; and four great-grandchildren: Rudy and Ella Kalbach and Mason and Makenna Brown. She had a great ride through life. Rita was an awesome mom and grandmother. Her family is deeply appreciative of her love and unflinching support through the years.
