Obituary of Anita Johnson

Anita Frances Johnson was called home by her Lord and Savior on Jan. 22, 2011, at Chico Care Center. She was 91. Anita was born on March 11, 1919 in Colma, CA to Frank and Helena Kahle. She graduated from Jefferson High School in Daly City, CA. She worked for American Tobacco in San Francisco until the end of WWII, when she ended her career to start her family. She became a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church when she moved to Chico in 2004. Her husband belonged to the Shrine, they enjoyed many years participating in activities with fellow lodge members and their families. She supported various organizations over the years. Recently, she trained, pledged and "Walked for the Cure" (Alzheimers). She loved reading history books and her daily newspapers. When her husband retired in 1974 they started to travel. They enjoyed many trips over the years. Their trips to Scandinavia and to China were definite highlights. She enjoyed 62 years of marriage to Carl Gilbert Johnson, who preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Carl Johnson of Chico, CA; daughter, Janet Johnson, MD of Tucson, AZ, and son. Gary Johnson of Albany, OR; 10 grandchildren and "Great-Mom" to 6 great-grandchildren. Anita's family extends their appreciation to The Courtyard and to Chico Care Center for their gentle hearts, strong support and wonderful care given to Anita. Services will be held on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Chico, CA. Burial will be on Monday, January 31, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Ollvet Memorial Park in Colma, CA. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Bethel Center, San Francisco, CA; Shriners Children's Hospital, Sacramento, CA or Redeemer Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, Chico, CA.
