Obituary of Ernest Wetmore

Ernie was born July 6, 1928 to Elbert and Grace Wetmore in Woodland, CA. and passed away in Chico on July 30, 2009. He grew up in Southern California and attended Alhambra High School where he excelled in athletics. He entered the Marine Corps upon graduation, then later attended the University of California at Davis where he played on both the football and basketball teams and acquired his Bachelor's degree. He was an active member of Kappa Sigma Fraternity. While at Davis, he met and soon married Jane Wood. Ernie reentered the military during the Korean conflict. Upon his return, he and Jane started their family. Ernie spent his professional life in sales and pension services which took the family from Southern California to the Bay Area. In 1999, they moved to Chico. Ernie is survived by Jane, his loving wife of 57 years; their children, Ernie (Sharon), Marilyn (Jim), and Steven (Julie); grandchildren Melanie, Dwayne, Jill, Henry, Emily, Grace, and Joey; 5 great grandchildren; brother, Dr. William Wetmore, of Modesto, CA.; several nieces and a nephew. Ernie will be fondly remembered for his great sense of humor and warm generous spirit. He enjoyed an active life filled with family, friends, golf, and church activities. Special thanks to all of his golfing friends who shared the love of the game, to his monthly poker buddies who met for a friendly evening of cards and to the men of St. John's Episcopal Church Bible Studies. He was a true gentleman in all aspects of his life and will be lovingly remembered for his quiet, inspiring ways. A private family gathering to honor Ernie will be held later this year. Contributions may be made in Ernie's name to Youth and Family Programs, 2577 California Park Dr., Chico, CA 95928 or, St. John's Episcopal Church, 2341 Floral Ave. Chico, CA. 95926. There are no goodbyes, just "Later". "We love you, man!"
