Coach Pitsker was my first real coach for organized sports. Though it was nearly 30 years ago. (Fall of 1979) I remember it like it was yesterday. He coached our 9th grade football team at Chico Jr High to a successful season. He was very demanding, likable and fair. Though large in stature he was never intimidating, I always wanted to please him, not out of fear, but because I liked him and respected him as a person. He left an indelible impression on me, and I'm sure he will be missed by many. My condolences to his surviving family.

Hi Diane, Carrie and Stacy: I am so sorry about the loss of your husband and dad. I always thought he was going to beat it. I visited with him by phone about 3 weeks prior to his passing, and he sounded GREAT. We compared our episodes with our respective speech-therapists. It was pretty similar, actually. He was also really excited about how his girls had just gone down to select bridesmaids dresses for Carrie's wedding, and of course he was really excited about that event! He said he really liked Carrie's husband to be!
I can't believe he is gone, and I truly miss him, as do all of you. We had some great times together while at Chico Jr. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Love, dale

Mr. Pitsker was one of those teachers you will always remember. He always had that great smile and kind eyes.
He was teaching PE at CJHS when I first met him and I cherish the picture I have of the two of us at the 9th grade graduation pool party. Like Sandy Magoon, both Brett and I smile everytime we think of him.
A high school football game will not occur without fond memories of his love of sports.
We are so sorry for your loss.
May God bless you and comfort you.

Coach Pit words can never do you justice . Your actions were incredible . As a football/track coach in Chico you influenced the lives of thousands of young adolescents entering the hardest most challenging times of their lives . Your leadership is unparraleled but your passion and love is what defines you . I will remember our first coach to player meeting as you asked me to be a leader and to play like Dick Butkus . You even game me his number 51 . It is still my favorite number . Your legendary use of a clipboard will carry on forever . I know you retired as a Pleasant Valley Viking but my heart and mind are at ease as you assured me your underwear are still Panther RED ! Thank you coach for the life lessons as I use them to raise my children . Your legend will live on forever !

Diane, Carrie and Stacy
I send my sympathy to each of you.
I feel fortunate to have taught with Ric at Chico High School for a short time.
Carrie did her student teaching at Chico High just a room away from mine and she delighted us all with her enthusiasm for teaching. Her daddy must have been her inspiration.
My son was privileged to have Ric as a football coach at Chico Junior High. He also was a Physical Education aide for Mr. Pitsker. He has fond memories of his time working with Ric.
May peace be near and may time heal your loss.
Fondly, Merrieta Beveridge

Dear Diane, family and friends:
How would one salute such a great man? "Mr. Pit" was one of the best coaches I have ever met. Fair, encouraging and most of all a teacher of the right way to do things in life. Do it right the first time or keep trying till you do. The only way to salute such a great man, is to live life as he would and to remember his love, friendship and guidance. Those are the things that will help guide us through, till we meet him again.
Peace be with you,
Joseph

He was my first football coach... I was a freshman at CJHS in 1988. Having never played football before at the competetive level, "Coach Pit" taught me discipline in his militaristic fashion. He was always fair and always enabled his players to achieve things we didn't even know we had inside of us. Thanks to his guidance and direction, I was lucky enough to earn a starting position on the offensive line. That year we were co-champs with Bidwell. Many of the things Ric taught me back then, I still carry with me today. He taught me the determination and perserverance can make all of us winners... and I will always thank him for that. Ric would yell and punish us for making "mental mistakes." But he was always there to reward us when we executed perfectly. Our team was small in size, but gigantic in spirit... we reflected *his* spirit... and his spirit is high above, looking down on us, letting us know he will always be a part of those whom he touched.
God bless you Ric Pitsker... you were and still are my favorite coach of all time -- on any and every level.
Sincerely,
Brandon S. Atchison

Dear Mrs. Pitsker, My name is Jim and I am very sorry to hear of coach Pitsker's passing. When I was a student at Chico Jr. in the late 1970's, he was my math teacher. He was my coach, when I was on the wrestling team in 8th grade and my football coach in 9th grade. He was one of the best coaches I had. I was lucky to have had as a coach and wish I had more like him, through the rest of my sports. I always had the most respect for him because he had a way of motivating me and I knew he wanted me succeed. The respect for him is why I still call him coach after all these years. The last time I saw him, was at track meets, when he was coaching track at Pleasent Valley High and I coach for Red Bluff. I always enjoyed talking to him and seeing him. I liked his sense of humor and wit. He also, had a way of talking that, I wanted to make sure I listened to what he was saying. In closing, I would like to express sadness for you, Carrie and Stacy. I will miss him!
Sincerely,
Jim Barnard

Mr. Pitsker was one of the many coaches and teachers I grew to love and respect while I attended PVHS. He was such a caring man and someone who truly wanted the best for his students. It was special to see the endearing relationship that he had with his daughters-many times while I was a TA in the PE room/coaching office he would speak of them with such pride. I will always remember his smile and the pride he had in his family, students, and athletic teams. What an amazing man! My thoughts and prayers are with the Pitskers.

I was very sad to hear about the passing of Coach Pit. Ric was always such a caring and nice man to both myself and my brother. Coach Pit gave me some of my earliest opportunities as a football coach and I owe a great deal of where I am now to the chances he gave me. Thanks Pit. You will be missed.

My whole heart and prayers go out to you. I first met "Mr. Pitsker" as a student at Chico Jr. High. He was one of my favorite teachers. I was a soccer player but coach Pit thought for sure I could participate in Track. As a 13 year old, the hurdles were scary to me, but I will always remember his positive encouragement and taking the time with me. Track didn't work for me, but I loved the way he taught kids to go for it and try new things. He made it fun. I was excited to learn that he would be apart of the Coaching staff 2 years ago when our son Casey played freshman football at PV. When I think of him now, what comes to mind is class, respect, and dedication.

Dear Diane and family:
I am saddened by your loss and wish I could have known Ric before meeting all of you in the emergency department. When I was in my early 30's I lost a dear friend to GBM. She was in her early fifties and we had not long before said goodbye to her husband, my work colleague, who had passed away from multiple myeloma. Together, they were mentors and role models for me and my wife as we were just starting a family and they were raising three boys. It turns out that we now have three boys and we never got the real-time guidance from them that we imagined would be ours. Nonetheless, they still inspire us by the example we witnessed. I'm sure many former students and athletes feel and will feel that way about Ric and I hope that will be a comfort in the days ahead. The legacy of a life well lived does go on.
Warmest wishes, Steve

My heart goes out to Ric's family and to his many friends. Working with Ric was always a delight for me. One couldn't ask for a more cheerful and enthusiastic person, both in the classroom and as a friend. I had the pleasure of first having Ric as a student teacher, then knowing him as a colleague and member of my Science Department at Chico Junior High School. I could always depend on Ric to go that extra mile.
All of us who knew Ric were blessed by his presence in our lives.

I am so stunned and sorry to hear of this. Mr. Pitsker or Pit as we called him was my PE teacher at Chico Jr. and we all adored him. That was many many years ago but feels like yesterday. What a bummer. All the good ones are leaving way to quick. He was a great teacher and will NEVER be forgotten!!
